Finley

Cortisol Detection Dog

Because of the pandemic and its aftermath, Dr. Bourget has been seeing patients who exhibit an increased level of anxiety about minor surgical procedures. With the help of a world class trainer, he has been able to introduce a medical scent service dog to his practice.

Cortisol detection dog Finley can identify levels of cortisol, a hormone produced by the adrenal glands. It is a key indicator of stress and anxiety, and Finley is able to detect fluctuations in a patient’s cortisol level. In addition to this unique medical skill, Finley provides comfort to patients, especially children.

This pilot project is the first of its kind in Canada, as well as the first medical fellowship for Finley.
